Genova - Mallorca, Spain
Perched in the lively Spanish quarter of Genova, Palma de Mallorca, this project is designed to embrace its spectacular sea views while offering a serene retreat. Set against the backdrop of a buzzing neighbourhood, the home balances openness and privacy through a seamless flow of spaces, courtyards, and framed vistas. With an organic connection between indoors and outdoors, it captures the essence of Mediterranean living—where light, atmosphere, and tranquility define the experience.
Philosophy
This architectural concept is driven by four core principles that shape the experience of space: Open Privacy, Connection, Flow & Movement, and Context & Storytelling. Each element is carefully designed to create a harmonious balance between openness and intimacy, human interaction, seamless circulation, and a meaningful relationship with the surroundings.
Open Privacy
Privacy is achieved through openness rather than isolation. Multiple courtyards and structural elements block unwanted views while preserving the spectacular panorama. Different floors offer varying degrees of privacy, descending from the top to the basement without feeling closed off.
Connection
Architecture fosters human connection through visual and audible links. Open sightlines allow residents to see across spaces, while semi-open floor plans enable acoustic connections, maintaining a sense of presence even when physically apart.
Flow & Movement
The house promotes uninterrupted, organic movement. Circular circulation patterns prevent dead ends, while hallways remain separate from living areas to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Variations in ceiling heights, floor levels, and spatial compression/expansion create a natural rhythm and intuitive wayfinding.
Context & Storytelling
Architectural elements frame and guide the experience of the spectacular surroundings. Carefully placed openings, semi-transparent walls, and the intentional absence of glass control views to prevent visual overwhelm. Thoughtful spatial design supports intuitive movement and fosters a sense of ease.
